SC 76ers vs Southern Queens (8th Grade Championship)
The 8th grade championship game featured the SC 76ers and the Southern Queens. The 76ers jumped out to an early 11-5 lead following a 3-pointer by Anyah Henderson. Point guard, Trinity Jones, displayed her floor general skills by controlling the tempo of the game early and distributing to her teammates. The Southern Queens came to compete and were aggressive on both ends of the floor. Ashley Walker scored 5 pts in the opening half and kept the game competitive early.The 76ers continued to apply defensive pressure and outrebounded the Southern Queens. They eventually began to impose their will to propel their way to a 17-6 lead at the 2:44 mark following a layup by Delilah Soltys. The 76ers went on to a 26-7 halftime lead. Aniyah Henderson led her team with 9 pts in the half.
In the second half, the Southern Queens continued to have problems trying to solve the swarming defensive pressure of the 76ers. Their turnovers and lack of open shot opportunities became real obstacles. The 76ers’ guard play was pivotal. Jones maintained the pace of the game as Soltys and Henderson added the scoring punch. In addition, the team depth, skill and talent of the 76ers was overwhelming for the Southern Queens. In the end, the Southern Queens could only muster four second half points as the 76ers cruised to a 37-11 win. Ashley Walker paced the Southern Queens with 5 pts. The 76ers were led by Anyah Henderson with 13 pts.
